Hello Cathy, thanks for asking. I wish you "καλή λευτεριά"!
When we cut an aloe leaf to process and manufacture some products from this, we see that this consists of three parts:
  • The external hard green rind,
  • Just below the crust a thin layer of yellow sticky residues called latex, and finally
  • The gel which is a transparent jelly-like substance which is called aloe vera inner leaf gel.
Aloe latex is known as a powerful laxative, because it prevents water absorption in the intestine, resulting in bowel contents to move more quickly.

Large doses of Aloe Latex are known to cause bloody diarrhea and kidney damage. Aloe Latex is not safe and should not be consumed during pregnancy or nursing mothers and even in healthy people.
Its use is limited to people with chronic constipation and other such special conditions.

By contrast, pure aloe vera inner leaf gel does not have these effects and is safe for use during pregnancy ...
